Four Women is inspired by Women everywhere.
In honor of Women’s History Month 2021, Step Afrika! presented FOUR WOMEN, a groundbreaking four-part short film series that brings the beauty and power of women center stage. The Women of Step Afrika! showcase their love for the art form of stepping and other movement practices to embody the spirit of Women’s History Month — a celebration of Women everywhere.
Four Women features the Women of Step Afrika!; Emerald Holman, Misha Michel, Ronnique Murray, and Valencia Odeyka Emonni Springer. This work, conceived by Conrad R Kelly II and directed by Ajah Smith, on premiered March 28, 2021 – March 31, 2021.
CHAPTER 1
Chapter 1 is a duet that features Ronnique Murray and Emerald Holman, both graduates of Virginia Commonwealth University’s dance program. This duet brings together the tradition of stepping with distinct contemporary movements.

CHAPTER 2
Chapter 2 is a contemporary step work informed by the styles and traditions first developed in African American sororities. This chapter features Emerald Holman, Misha Michel, Ronnique Murray, and Valencia Springer.

CHAPTER 3
Chapter 3 features traditional West African movement practices including Lamban, Sunu, and Sintean. This chapter features Emerald Holman, Misha Michel, Ronnique Murray and Valencia Springer.
