The Groundbreaking 30th Anniversary Finale at Strathmore

On June 27 – 28, 2025, Step Afrika! celebrated 30 years of critically acclaimed, percussive performance with a groundbreaking program at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD. The weekend’s performances featured two world premieres choreographed by Step Afrika! Assistant Artistic Director Conrad R. Kelly II, alongside works shaped and refined through the Company’s long-standing collaboration with South Africa. Grammy-nominated Sweet Honey in the Rock® accompanied The Wade Suite.

Roughly 3,000 patrons attended this celebratory finale of Step Afrika!’s 30th Anniversary season. These performances were a culmination and a new beginning, demonstrating Step Afrika!’s unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of stepping and exploring its nearly limitless artistic possibilities.
